Problem Strings for Fluency and Beyond: Grade Two

Problem strings consist of carefully crafted sequences of related math problems that help students develop robust mathematical reasoning. More tightly crafted than number talks to rely on more than just talk, they are designed to ensure fluency and progressive mathematical development. This unit aligns with the CCSS grade two objectives and is part of a new mathematics series on fluency that is a companion to k-5 Contexts for Learning Mathematics. This book provides problem strings to support automization of basic facts within 20, addition and subtraction within 100, and the extension of place value to 1000. It also contains geometry strings on reasoning with shapes and attributes, coordinating rows and columns within arrays, and partitioning shapes.
