Don’t Put It Off! Why summer is the best time to get home repairs sorted

26 June 2025

When the sun’s out and the days are long, it’s easy to put home maintenance on the back burner. But summer is actually the ideal time to tackle those essential home repairs and upgrades, before autumn and winter bring their own challenges. Here’s why acting now can save you headaches later.

Get your boiler serviced before you need It

Your boiler might be the last thing on your mind when it’s warm outside, but summer is the perfect time for a routine service. Regular maintenance keeps your heating system running efficiently and can help you avoid unexpected breakdowns when you switch it back on in the colder months.

Check your roof while the weather’s good

Spotting damaged roof tiles or loose flashing is much easier in dry, clear weather. Summer inspections allow repairs to be made quickly, without the added complications of rain, wind, or snow. Left unchecked, even minor roof issues can lead to leaks and costly water damage come autumn.

Upgrade outdoor security lighting

With longer evenings and outdoor activities in full swing, summer is a great time to install or upgrade your outdoor lighting. Modern LED security lighting not only helps deter intruders, but also improves visibility around your property when the darker months arrive.

Don’t forget gutters and drainage

Clear out debris from gutters and downpipes while the weather’s dry. Blocked drainage can lead to serious water ingress issues once heavy rains return later in the year.

Book tradespeople while availability is better

Summer often offers better availability for tradespeople compared to the busier autumn and winter seasons.
