I never thought the day would come when the company I founded more than 40 years ago would scrap the 24/7 service it was famous for before the American’s took control in 2021.
I shouldn’t gripe; I sold it to them. But just like when the new management scrapped the firm’s apprenticeship scheme earlier this year every backwards step in service, I hear about on the plumbers’ underground gives me a tiny pang of sadness.
And their latest move to ‘down tools’ and telephones at 10:30pm is no exception. The moment the clock hits half-ten the call-centre closes, and engineers knock-off.
Despite the 24hr service claims they have become a 14.5-hour a day operation! Not such an impressive or catchy slogan for the side of its vans or plastered all over its website.
I wonder when they’ll stop the lies and be honest with the public? So far the 24-hour promises have not come down, which leaves me wondering how long it will be before the boys and girls from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) show some interest and pay Pimlico a visit? Maybe they should call up with a plumbing emergency at 11pm and find out the ruth first hand?
The good news is that WeFix London – my family’s firm – is keeping the tradition of delivering a genuine 24-hours a day alive in London, with local staff in our call-centre every hour of the day and night, and engineers at the ready to drive to the rescue moments after a call comes in.
So that’s ‘job done’ by WeFix London, just like a fourth emergency service, responding to calls for help around the clock, no exceptions, every day of the year, including Christmas, New Year and all Bank holidays.
Now all we need is for the ASA to do its job and demand Pimlico get rid of its fake 24-hr claim, just like it has done with its service.
