Today I was on the wireless with my old mate and interrogator Jonathan Vernon-Smith on his BBC radio show the JVS Show when I was asked for my views on rejoining the EU – I think people were genuinely surprised to hear I’m not all for jumping straight back in.

I genuinely believe that we must have another referendum, and it’s up to the people of the UK what the outcome should be. Jonathan then accused me of backing Andy Burnham, which is absolute bollocks.

The PM is following the people. He doesn’t care one way or another. He smells votes and he’s determined to get his share. So no, I’m not backing Andy Burnham I’m with the people of the UK. Yes, I think leaving was a disaster and that being back inside the EU club would be good for the economy but going back must happen only after a majority vote.

It’s that simple and unlike Boris I’m not changing my mind on Brexit.
