So, when Keir Starmer’s Governments piled on extra costs, increased taxes, and made it harder to employ people, it’s no wonder confidence legged it! Companies pulled the pin on investment and recruitment that’s any chance of any decent economic growth out the door. That’s not ideology, it’s how businesses react when the goalposts keep moving.
Over the past two years, employers have faced higher National Insurance costs, changes to employment rights, increases in the National Living Wage, the removal of certain tax reliefs and continued uncertainty over future business taxation.
The maniacs running the asylum reckoned they could squeeze the hell out of businesses, pay out more benefits, improve public services, and the economy would keep on funding their magical world and growing at the same time. I’m no gardener but if you smash a rose bush with a hockey stick your blooms are destroyed and when the plant dies you get no more roses.
That was the government that was elected by the people of the UK. They were complete bollocks, but they managed to con enough votes for a landslide victory with a monster majority in The Commons. Now they’re gone in record time and what’s coming next is not only a badly kept secret, an insult to voters, but also an all-time dumb idea.
We all know THEY are allowed to sub-in a new PM when the one people knew they were backing turns out to be crap, but surely the last ten years have taught us it’s a stupid idea. In this case double-stupid since Burnham didn’t lead Labour to victory at the last General Election, he wasn’t a minister in Starmer’s, or even an MP! Our next PM wasn’t even in the bloody election.
He’s made a mockery of parliament by making an actual junior MP an offer he couldn’t refuse, so doing bullying his way to Westminster and into Downing Street. More of a mafia hit than a political manoeuvre!
So Don Burnham, how are you going to get the rest of the UK to kiss the ring like Josh Simons and accept your morally repugnant power grab.
